Proof #16: Inescapable death

Then We fashioned the sperm into a clot; then We fashioned the clot into a shapeless lump; then We fashioned bones out of this shapeless lump; then We clothed the bones with flesh; then We developed it into another creation. So blessed be Allah, the Best of creators. (23:15)

Then after that you must surely die. (23:16)

Here, the process of creation is described as it goes through its various stages in the womb. Once a complete human specimen is delivered, it begins its inevitable journey to its death. Jesus would have gone through the very same process and would have met his eventual and timely death in due course.

While Quran presents an overwhelming evidence of Jesus' natural death, yet there are many Muslims who remain insistent on his continued life. It is a difficult position to defend, which goes against nature as well as the Word of God. But the defenders of the indefensible are usually of the unyielding kind. When beaten on all fronts, at some point they take refuge in the last of all fall-back shelters—their very last line of defense: Fine, he is dead! but is it not in the power of God to bring him back to life? They just have to have him back! That question, mercifully, is also answered right here in the next verse:

Then on the Day of Resurrection will you be raised up. (23:17)

Yes he will be raised, but not here. It will be in the Hereafter, along with everyone else. There he will not be asked to save the politics of the Muslim ummah, fight wars for them or grant them global domination, while they idle about and watch the wholesale slaughter of the infidels. Such macabre and cruel expectations are products of sick minds and will never be fulfilled.  When Jesus is raised, like everyone else, he will only be asked to give an account of himself, a glimpse of which is given in the Holy Quran and is discussed here.

Actually the concept is
"He was raised alive, He will come back and live rest of the years of his life and then die a natural death."

So where it contadicts Quran?

But that would require his aging process to have stopped for the last 2K years. I suggest you see #6, #7, #11 and #15 for why such an understanding would contradict the Quran.

the aging process of Ashab al Kahf was also stopped by Allah, according to the Quraan. if Allah can their aging process for a few centuries, He can stop aging process of Of one of his favorite Prophets as well. also the way he was born also is a legitimate proof of how Allah does what He wills.

sJ: there was nothing extraordinary in the life-spans of the Ashab-Kahaf. In fact, it is likely they had reduced life expectancy given their extraordinary circumstances. As a group, however, several generations of these persecuted Christians lived 'underground' for just over 300 years, some of which was actually spent in the catacombs, possibly of Rome.

When reading Quran, it helps to understand a hard-to-decipher instance by applying the relevant rule to it, rather than to derive a preposterous rule from an instance that is high in metaphor. Many Quranic stories are in fact prophecies, and as is the wont of scriptures, these can be couched metaphorically. Unless these are read in that light, one can end up with rather a silly world view.

what do u think about walies n how will u explain sleep n death as both has the same meaning tawaffee

A Omer said...

samah: you are right tawaffee means both sleep and death, however when unqualified it only means death. To denote sleep it would be accompanied with a qualifier such as 'night' to clarify it. This is discussed in more detail in #1.

What do you mean by 'walies'?

Actually you can't applies generalities to specialities. If we take your argument of Human life cycle as mentioned in Quran, then how would you explain the following:

1. Birth of Jesus (AS)
2. Birth of Adam (AS)
3. Birth of Hawa (AS)

Allah has created these exceptions to show us his creation power. As one of the comments say, if you try to use the same yardstick everywhere, you will come up with silly ideas only.

Anjum, while it is true that God's ability to exercise His will is limitless, yet it is also true that His will is not driven by fantasies of people. I, for one, would not have a problem believing in a living Jesus if it were mentioned anywhere in the Quran. Quran repeatedly declares him dead, this way and that, directly and indirectly, and leaves no room for him to live whatsoever. May I suggest you go through this blog, read earliest post first. Thanks

Islamic texts categorically deny the crucifixion and death of Jesus at the hands of the Jews.[5] The Qur'an states that the Jews sought to kill Jesus, but they did not kill or crucify him, although a likeness of it was shown to them. Tradionalists believe that Jesus was not crucified but instead, he was raised alive unto the heavens. This raising is understood by them to mean bodily ascension.

Samina: I fully agree that Quran "categorically denies the crucifixion and death of Jesus at the hands of the Jews.". This applies to Jesus as well as to pretty much everyone else who has ever lived and walked this earth, barring a few of course. There are billions upon billions of people past who were not crucified nor were they killed by the Jews, so using your logic they should all be still alive somewhere in deep space awaiting their return back to earth. From a tautology you take short cut to an absurdity. Most people die of old age, many of illness, some of accidents. And so did Jesus. According to one hadith he lived to 120.

About crucifixion "seeming thus to them", simply means they were unable to kill him, while they continued to (erroneously) believe they had been successful. He was taken down alive, in a state of unconsciousness, and later nursed back to health.

Also "he was not crucified" means that he was not killed on the cross. If someone is merely injured on the cross yet survives, it may not be said of such a person 'he was crucified', just as it may not be said of someone who is injured by the sword that he was 'put to the sword. In both cases the subject needs to die for the expression to apply. Jesus survived, and despite being put on the cross it can be rightly said that they failed to crucify him. Which is what Quran is saying.

Thank you for your comments.

o omar!may Allah guide u and your group.its my prayer but its between Allah and u that matters your destiny.Quran is very categorical that Esau ibn Mariam was not killed but raised up unto Him.He comes back b4 qiyamah as a sign of the Hour.He is going to die in the 2nd coming and will be ressurected like anyone.this matter is made very clear by many muslim and christian scholars. satan wont leave you people till majority is misled and cast into hell.my advise pl dont approach Quran wit sick heart it will increase your sickness.

and for their saying, 'we killed the messiah, jesus the son of mary, the messenger (and prophet) of allah. ' they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but to them, he (the crucified) had been given the look (of prophet jesus). those who differ concerning him (prophet jesus) are surely in doubt regarding him, they have no knowledge of him, except the following of supposition, and (it is) a certainty they did not kill him. (۱۵۷)

rather, allah raised him up to him. allah is almighty, the wise. (۱۵۸) quran : Chapter 4: AN-NISA (WOMEN)

Asif said...

elahe: verse you quote simply means Jesus was not killed or crucified. Obviously he died naturally thereafter. The "raising" simply means raising of spiritual rank, or gaining of honor in the eyes of God. In this way Muhammad, peace be upon him, was raised much higher than Jesus. Every Muslim prays for being "raised" in every Salaat: Rabigh fir li warham ni wahdi ni wa aafini war-fani (raise me) wajburni war zuqni, so nothing special here.

Allah says clearly in the Quran that Jesus was neither killed nor crucified and those who doubt that have no knowledge:

That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah";- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:-
Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise. (4:157-8)

Why creators? Why not creator? Who else do this kind creation beside Allah?

Why the Best of creator sometimes comes out defect lives?

Khaliq is that type of creator who creates using existing raw material, as opposed to Fatir who creates out of nothing. God is both. As a Fatir He is unique, as a khaliq He is not. He shares that attribute with His creation in varying degrees, just like he shares some of His other attributes.

Alhamdolilah.

I just want to state that I am extremely blessed to have come across this page. The timing is more than perfect.

Allah asks all of His creations to use their own logic, understanding and reasoning. The ability to doubt is not a sin, rather a blessing that Allah set has given us, while He created the human mind.

My brothers and sisters, it can definitely seem sinful and scary at first to think in the opposite direction of our community, but do not forget that you will be judged alone and not as a group on the Final Day.

All of this new information should be sincerely analyzed and thought upon. Coupled with prayer to God, asking for clarity.

Surely only then can you open your hearts and minds to see the truth in these words as well as others who spread similar truths.

Glory be to Allah.
